Game

We are one of the very few licensed game dealers in this area. We have a wide range freshly available during the season. Out of season we always have selection of frozen products. Most of our game is shot on our own land or from local shoots in the neighbouring counties (usually the Vale of Belvoir). Our range includes:- Pheasant Partridge Rabbit and Hare Wood Pigeon Venison Guinea Fowl Grouse Wild Duck Wild Goose
Game Mix - ideal for stews, casseroles and pies What is game? Technically it is a meat in its wild state which used to be hunted. The majority of the game we supply is from the wild. Some (such as pheasant) is reared for shooting, but then released into the wild. Distinction is made between land or ground game (e.g. rabbit and hare) and feathered and winged. Winged includes water fowl such as mallard, teal etc. There is a further distinction between small ground game (hare – seasonal) and large ground game (red deer, fallow deer, boar) A great website to use for mouth watering recipes is www.gametoeat.co.uk We have free copies of their recipe books in our Farm Shop. Game can only be shot during specific times of the years and a basic guide to the shooting seasons is given below. However, increasingly frozen game meat is available year round. Calendar of the Shooting Season  Grouse   12th August (Glorious Twelfth) to 10th December Pheasant   1st October to 1st February Partridge   1st September to 1st February Duck and Goose   1st September to 31st January Hare   1st August to 29th February Deer    Depending on the breed and sex this varies. Generally between August 1st to April 30th
